Waverly students shop for gifts during Spirit of Giving event

Posted on: December 20, 2016

The third annual Waverly Elementary School Spirit of Giving event brought community support, volunteers and donations to the school so students could shop for holiday gifts.

Postponed from last week because of inclement weather, today’s event brought students and staff back to school for a fun shopping experience that allowed students to choose presents and wrap them.

“Every student had the opportunity to select holiday gifts for their immediate family members, have their gifts wrapped and ready to take home to give their loved ones,” said school counselor Anne Bailey. “This event is made possible through the generous donations of the Albany community and business partners.”

A Rainbow Over Waverly Stars

Posted on: December 1, 2016

img_6370To end the month of November we had a beautiful rainbow over our school, which got me thinking:

What exactly is a rainbow?

How are rainbows created?

Is it possible to touch a rainbow?

Does everyone see the exact same rainbow?

For answers to these questions and more fun information about rainbows, visit the Science Kids website.  You can also find a fun experiment to create your very own rainbow.

Civil War Tuesday at Waverly

Posted on: November 21, 2016

To celebrate Saturday’s upcoming 120th Civil War football game between the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers, we are asking all students and staff to wear black and orange (to show support for the Beavers) or green and yellow (to show support for the Ducks).  The Ducks wear a variety of colors and uniform combinations so even if you wear blue, pink, white, and/or grey, that will work too!

At 2:15pm on Tuesday we will have a special event taking place at Waverly.  Go Beavers!  Go Ducks!
