Waverly preschool students celebrated Arbor Day on April 28 with a tree donation and planting by Stutzman Services.

The Child Development Center at Waverly Elementary School received a special gift on Friday. With the help of some eager preschoolers, Landscape Designer Bill Marshall of Stutzman Services planted a donated red alder tree in the school’s playground.

The Arbor Day planting served not only as a hands-on educational opportunity for students, but also as an unofficial ground breaking for the preschool’s new playground. Stutzman Services has donated Marshall’s time to design the unique playground and this tree is one of several to be included in the final product.

The red alder is native to Oregon and currently stands at about 10 feet tall. “I was expecting something much smaller. This is so nice and the kids are going to love watching it grow,” said preschool teacher Katy Allaback. “We are just so thankful for the donation and support from Mr. Marshall and Stutzman Services.”
